A&M-COMMERCE
DOWNS TWU IN VOLLEYBALL
COMMERCE,
TXTexas A&M University-Commerce
(15-7, 5-2 LSC) used a .284 hitting percentage and defended
the Texas Woman's University (6-18, 3-4 conf.) offense well
in a 0-3 (20-30, 22-30, 27-30) victory in Lone Star Conference
North Division action. Adalene Wright (Garland, TX/South
Garland H.S.), Melanie Pabalate (Fort Worth, TX/Navarro College) and April
Hollub (Weimar, TX/ Weimar H.S.) led the Pioneers with
seven kills apiece.
The team played well tonight, we just didn't put the
ball away enough to get the win, head coach Patty Dowdell
said. Texas A&M-Commerce's two hitters, Amy Wallace
and Chantae Weathers, did a good job offensively, but we weren't
moving well enough on defense to make plays on the ball.
Texas A&M-Commerce
won all three games by hitting better than .200 in all three
frames and recording a total of 51 kills
with only 18 hitting errors. TWU, on the other hand, hit .128
in game one, .000 in game two and .128 in the final frame with
30 team kills and 19 hitting errors. The Pioneers made game
three a close one as they took the lead 27-26. But the Lions
rattled off four straight points to win the game and the match.
TWU recorded an attack percentage of .102 with 28 assists,
33 digs and two team blocks.
Other
notable performances for the Pioneers were Johanna
Hubbard (Southlake, TX/Carroll H.S.) and Meredith
Fry (Burnet, TX/Burnet H.S.) sharing the setting duties
with 15 and 13 assists, respectively. Marci Brinkman (Carrollton,
TX/ Newman Smith HS) chipped in with three kills and
a game-leading three service aces.
Next
up, the Pioneers continue playing conference teams on the
road as they travel to Wichita Falls, Texas, to face Midwestern
State University on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The match is scheduled
to begin at 7 p.m.
