EASTERN
NEW MEXICO ENDS TWU'S TOURNAMENT RUN
SAN
ANGELO, TXThe Texas Woman's University volleyball
team (4-17, 2-3 conf.) struggled with their offense for the
third consecutive match, hitting just .091 in a 0-3 (17-30,
26-30, 23-30) loss to Eastern New Mexico (16-5).
It was another dismal day of hitting for us again. We
were playing flat-footed and did not transition to the ball
at all today, head coach Patty Dowdell said. We
need to work harder in practice and try to find some offense.
Eastern New Mexico came out strong in game one, winning the
frame 17-30 by hitting .357 with 13 kills and limiting the
Pioneer offense to 10 kills with nine hitting errors. It was
much of the same in game two as TWU recorded eight kills and
five errors for an attack percentage of .073, allowing the
Zias to pull to a 0-2 advantage. The Pioneers turned in their
best offensive production in game three with 12 kills and six
errors on 36 total attacks, but it was too little too late
as Eastern New Mexico recorded a .265 hitting percentage with
17 kills to take the game and the match. The Zias' April Brockman
finished the match with a game-high 11 kills.
TWU recorded 30 kills and 20 hitting errors for an attack
percentage of .091 with 16 assists, 31 digs and five team blocks. Holly
Mobley (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood H.S.) led the Pioneers
with seven kills while Adalene Wright (Garland, TX/South
Garland H.S.) and April Hollub (Weimar, TX/Weimar
H.S.) chipped in with six apiece.
Next
up, the Pioneers return home to host a non-conference match
with
Texas Wesleyan University on Tuesday, Oct. 8 starting
at 7 p.m. TWU jumps back into conference play later in the
week when they travel to face Southeastern Oklahoma State on
Thursday, Oct. 10 and Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, Oct.
12. The match with SOSU begins at 7 p.m., while the
Lady Lions contest has a 6 p.m. start.
