UCO TAKES PIONEERS
IN
FOUR GAMES IN VOLLEYBALL

TX--Despite Adalene
Wright (Garland, TX/South Garland H.S.) recording a
season-high 22 kills and the team recording a season-high
24 block assists, the Texas
Woman's University volleyball team (3-14, 1-3 LSC) lost
1-3 (19-30, 21-30, 30-27, 25-30) to Lone Star Conference
North Division front-runner Central Oklahoma (15-2, 5-0 LSC).
The 24 block assists ties a school record set during two
different matches in 1997.
Central Oklahoma took control of the match in games one and
two, recording 37 kills in both games for a hitting percentage
.318. The Pioneers rebounded and won the third frame 30-27
by recording 14 kills and nine errors on 49 total attacks for
a hitting percentage of .102. UCO took the match and game four
by the score of 25-30 by out-hitting TWU .300 to .179. The
Pioneers totaled 50 kills and 28 errors on 177 attacks for
an attack percentage of .124 with 47 assists, 60 digs and 12.0
team blocks. Wright also earned a season-high six block assists
while April Hollub (Weimar, TX/Weimar H.S.) turned
in a career-high and team season-high 10 block assists. Sheri
Hughes (Arlington, TX/Des Moines C.C.) led the team with
27 assists and four service aces. The Lady Bronchos had three
players with double-digits in kills, with Lexy Fortner leading
the way with 20.
Next
up, the Pioneers host a conference match with Midwestern
State
on Tuesday, Oct. 1 starting at 7 p.m. before they
travel to San Angelo, Tex., to participate in the Lone Star
Conference Crossover Volleyball Tournament on Friday and Saturday,
Oct. 4-5. TWU will face Texas A&M-Kingsville at 12:30
p.m. and No. 7 West Texas A&M at 8 p.m. on Friday, then
play Eastern New Mexico at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
