PIONEER VOLLEYBALL
FALLS TO CAMERON IN THREE
DENTON,
TX--Cameron
(7-6, 2-2 LSC) recorded 10 service aces and kept the Texas
Woman's University (3-13,
1-2 LSC) offense off balance, enabling the Lady Aggies to
beat the Pioneers 3-0 (21-30, 16-30, 23-30). Adalene Wright
(Garland, TX/South Garland H.S.) paced TWU with 11 kills
and 15 digs, recording her eighth double-double of the season.
We played well in spurts tonight, but they still need
to become a more consistent team if we are going to pull off
some victories. The one bright spot from this match was that
the girls played harder tonight than they have in the past
two weeks, head coach Patty Dowdell said. Adalene
Wright had another good night hitting, leading the team with
11 kills while Marci Brinkman did a good job for us on the
front line.
TWU fought tough in the early going of game one, notching
a 10-10 tie before Cameron rolled off nine straight points
to take control of the game, winning 21-30. In game two, the
Pioneers had a 4-0 lead before the Lady Aggies made a 3-21
run and ended the frame 16-30. Cameron took an early lead in
game three, but TWU battled back to make the score 20-25. The
Aggies used sideout volleyball the rest of the way to win the
game and the match, 23-30. TWU finished the match with a hitting
percentage of .077 with 34 kills and 24 errors on 130 total
attacks while CU hit at a .227 clip with 48 kills and 18 errors
on 132 attacks. The Lady Aggies had two players in double figures
in kills with Kelsey Kosick leading the way with 17 and Morgan
Meyer collecting 11.
Sheri
Hughes (Arlington, TX/Des Moines C.C.) led
the Pioneers with 11 assists while April Hollub (Weimar,
TX/Weimar H.S.) and Holly Mobley (Kingwood, TX/ Kingwood
H.S.) finished second on the team with five kills apiece.
The loss pushes TWU's losing streak to five matches and it
also marked the ninth straight time the Pioneers have lost
to Cameron.
Next
up, the Pioneers continue their road trip as they face Lone
Star Conference North Division front-runner Central Oklahoma
on Saturday, Sept. 28 in Edmond, Okla. The match is scheduled
to begin at 5 p.m.
