TARLETON STATE TOPS
PIONEERS IN VOLLEYBALL
DENTON,
TX--The
Texas Woman's University volleyball team (3-12, 1-1 LSC)
came out firing in game one, winning
the first frame 30-20 on the strength of a .417 hitting percentage
with 12 kills on two errors. But hitting errors and mental
mistakes cost the Pioneers the match, losing the final three
games to Tarleton State (7-7), 21-30, 27-30 and 15-30. Adalene
Wright (Garland, TX/South Garland H.S.) recorded a game-high
17 kills on 39 attempts with an attack percentage of .333.
The team had a lot of ups and downs tonight. We played
really well in the first game and recorded a .400 hitting percentage,
fell off in game two and rebounded in game three, head
coach Patty Dowdell said. The girls didn't dig the ball
at all tonight, but they did block well. We need to be more
consistent in every aspect of the game and find a way for everybody
to be on during a match. Adalene Wright was our leader on the
court again with 17 kills and Holly Mobley turned in a good
game for us, hitting .200 with nine kills on 25 attempts.
TWU took the first game by out-hitting Tarleton .417 to .133.
In game two, the TexAnns even the match up when they recorded
14 kills and limited the Pioneers to eight. Game three was
a draw except for the score as both teams turned in an attack
percentage of .235, with TWU getting theirs from 14 kills and
six errors on 34 attempts. Tarleton ended the match with a
15-30 score in game four as the Pioneers recorded a -.030 attack
percentage with six kills and seven errors on 33 attacks. TWU
finished the match with an overall attack percentage of .148
with 40 kills on 122 attempts while the TexAnns hit .244 with
59 kills on 131 attempts.
Tarleton State had four players record double-digits in kills
with Lacey Adkisson leading the way with 14. April Hollub
(Weimar, TX/Weimar H.S.) finished with a match-high five
block assists while Marci Brinkman (Carrollton, TX/Newman
Smith H.S.) returned to action as a backrow player and
turned in three service aces. Sheri Hughes (Arlington, TX/Des
Moines C.C.) led TWU with 20 assists while Meredith
Fry (Burnet, TX/Burnet H.S.) chipped in with 14. The
Pioneers recorded nine service aces, 35 digs and eight team
blocks.
Next
up, the Pioneers continue their road trip as they head to
Oklahoma to face conference opponents Cameron University
on Friday, Sept. 27 and Central Oklahoma on Saturday, Sept.
28. The match against the Aggies will begin at 7 p.m. while
