PIONEER
VOLLEYBALL DROPS BOTH MATCHES AT
MSU TOURNAMENT

TX--The
Texas Woman's University volleyball team (3-11, 1-1 LSC)
turned in attack percentages of -.023
and .071 on their way to two loses against Drury University
and Wayland Baptist University today at the Midwestern State
Tournament. Drury shutout the Pioneers 0-3 (26-30, 23-30, 21-30)
while the match with WBU took four games to complete, 1-3 (26-30,
24-30, 30-26, 22-30). Senior outside hitter Adalene Wright
(Garland, TX/South Garland H.S.) tied her season-high
with 20 kills and set a new season-high with 24 digs in the
loss to Wayland Baptist.
The team did not play very well in either match today.
They are going to have to find a way to dig down deep and find
some motivation to win matches, head coach Patty Dowdell
said. Adalene Wright played well during out second match,
leading the team in kills and digs.
TWU continued their bad play from Tuesday night, committing
too many errors in all aspects of the game which allowed Drury
and Wayland Baptist to take control of the matches. Wright
and Heather Smith (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala H.S.) led
the Pioneers with eight kills apiece in the loss to Drury.
Smith also finished with a team-high 16 digs while Meredith
Fry (Burnet, TX/Burnet H.S.) led the team with 18 assists.
Notables in the second match were Melanie Pabalate (Fort
Worth, TX/Navarro College) recording a season-high 13
kills while Smith led the team with two service aces and Fry
led the team with 22 assists. Johanna Hubbard (Southlake,
TX/Carroll H.S.) turned in a season-high 17 assists against
Wayland Baptist while April Hollub (Weimar, TX/Weimar
H.S.) totalled 4.5 blocks on the day.
Next up, the Pioneers continue their road trip as they head
to Stephenville, Texas, on Tuesday, Sept. 24 to face Tarleton
State University in a match beginning at 7:00 p.m. TWU then
travels to Oklahoma to face conference opponents Cameron University
on Friday, Sept. 27 and Central Oklahoma on Saturday, Sept.
28. The match against the Aggies will begin at 7:00 p.m. while
UCO's game will start at 5:00 p.m.
