VOLLEYBALL DROPS TWO IN FINAL DAY OF GRAND VISTA INVITATIONAL
DENTON,
TX--Bellarmine
and Wisconsin-Parkside handed
the Texas Woman's University volleyball team (2-7) two
losses in the final day of the Grand Vista Invitational,
hosted by Mesa State College. Bellarmine won the match
in four games, 28-30, 26-30, 30-26 and 18-30 while the
Rangers came back from two games down to win, 30-26, 30-21,
22-30, 18-30, 5-15. Senior outside hitter Adalene Wright
(Garland, TX/South Garland H.S.) recorded two double-doubles
today, 20 kills and 17 digs against Bellarmine and 13 kills
and 20 digs versus UW-P.
We
played two strong matches today, the team just fell off the
track against Bellarmine, head coach Patty Dowdell
said. I played the girls in a lot of different positions
this weekend so we can have the best lineup possible on the
floor to open up conference action this coming week.
The
Pioneers hit at .130 clip during their loss to Bellarmine
University
with 54 kills and 30 errors on 184 total attacks. Wright
led the team with a season-high 20 kills and Heather Smith
(Chino Hills, CA/Ayala H.S.) turned is a season-high
24 digs to go along with her 10 kills, also to pace the team. Holly
Mobley (Kingwood, TX/ Kingwood H.S.) continued her great
serving, turning in three aces with nine kills and five digs.
TWU recorded a season-high 96 digs and had six team blocks.
The Pioneers
were up two games to none when Wisconsin-Parkside made their
comeback to take the match. Wright again paced the team with
13 kills and a game-high 20 digs. The Rangers recorded 68
kills and 21 errors while TWU had 47 kills and 24 errors. Marci
Brinkman (Carrollton, TX/Newman Smith H.S.) recorded
a double-double of her own when she turned in 10 kills and
10 digs. UW-P had three players in double figures in kills
with Katie Raasch leading the way with 20 kills and 16 digs.
The Pioneers had seven service aces, 84 digs, three block
solos and 17 block assists in the five-game loss.
Next
up, the Pioneers return home and open up conference action
when
they host Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday, Sept. 12 and
Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday, Sept. 14. Both matches
will begin at 7 p.m.
