2004 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships

CENTENARY WINS 2004 USAG WOMEN’S TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
Defending Champion Pioneers Place Second

DENTON, TX — Centenary earned the 2004 USAG Women’s Collegiate National Championship with a team score of 193.800, taking the title from seven-time champion Texas Woman’s University. The Pioneers placed second overall with a score of 192.600. UC-Davis placed third with 192.100 and Temple rounded out the team finalists with a score of 191.575.

The Pioneers started off with a strong rotation on the uneven bars, featuring USAG All-America senior Dana Giametta (Brookshire, TX), junior Erin MacNabb (Glenwood, MD) and sophomore Amber McMeans (Hurst, TX). TWU placed first on the event with a 48.325.

Senior Kristin Frogge (Cypress, TX) led the Pioneers with a 9.75 on beam, then scored a season-high on floor with a 9.85. Junior Jennifer Bolli (Rockwall, TX), who qualified for Saturday’s finals on the floor with a personal best 9.875, tied that score to lead the Pioneers. Giametta posted her personal best on floor with a 9.825, tying with teammate Rachel Goddard (Scarborough, ONT).

Eighty men and women gymnasts will compete on Saturday, April 10 for individual national titles as the 2004 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships concludes with the Event Finals at 5:00 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena.
