CHAMP TEXAS WOMAN’S ADVANCES TO USAG FINAL
Centenary’s Kristina Menne Wins All-Around Title
DENTON,
TX — Defending
USAG Collegiate National Championship and co-host Texas
Woman's University
was one of four team’s advancing to the 2004 finals by
placing second in Thursday night’s semifinal competition
with a score of 192.275. First place went to Centenary with
193.275, finishing third was the University of California-Davis
with a 191.850 and Temple University was fourth with a score
of 191.375. All four of those teams will move on to the Women's
Team Final on Friday, April 9.
Cornell
University (191.325), Air Force Academy (191.275), Seattle
Pacific (190.975) and Southern Connecticut (188.375) rounded
out the top eight teams
in the semifinal competition.
Both
Texas Woman’s and Centenary finished the night strong
as the Pioneers won the uneven bars – their last event
of the night – with a team
score of 48.525. Centenary won its final two events of the night with a score
of 48.350 on the beam and 49.125 on the floor exercise. The vault was won
by the U.S. Air Force Academy with a score of 48.325. Centenary
freshman Kristina Menne won the USAG all-around with a score
of 38.975. Menne also earned USAG All-America honors on the
uneven bars and balance
beam to move onto Saturday night’s Individual Event Finals, along with
all the top eight finishers on vault, bars, beam and floor.
USAG
All-America honors also went to five TWU Pioneer gymnasts.
Junior Jennifer
Bolli (Rockwall, TX) placed fourth on the floor exercise with a personal
best 9.875, and sophomore Amber McMeans (Hurst, TX) advances
with a 9.75 on the beam and a 9.725 on bars. A total of three Pioneers placed
in the top eight on the uneven bars, led by senior Dana Giametta (Brookshire,
TX) with a score of 9.775 and McMeans and junior Erin MacNabb
(Glenwood, MD) who both had a 9.725.
Friday's
schedule at the 2004 USAG Collegiate National Championships
includes the Men's Team Final beginning at 1 p.m., followed
by the Women's Team
Final at 7 p.m.
