ROMBERG NAMED TO CONFERENCE ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
Pioneer Soccer earns NSCAA Team Academic Award

DENTON, TX—The Lone Star Conference announced the 2003 Soccer All-Academic teams and Texas Woman’s University forward/defenderLuci Romberg (Foxfield, CO/ Cherry Creek H.S.) was named to the All-Academic team for the second consecutive year. Sophomore’s Sara Weaver (Prosper, TX/Prosper H.S.) and Stephanie Richardson (Duncanville, TX/Duncanville H.S.) were tabbed to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Romberg finished her career with the TWU Soccer team by leading the team with 11 points and three assists this season. She also scored four goals, tying teammate Emily Meinen (Keller, TX/Keller H.S.) for the team lead. Romberg has school records for most career points (22), career goals (8) and career assists (6). Weaver, who was named Honorable Mention All-Conference at goalkeeper in 2003, finished with a 3-7 record in goal. She recorded 60 saves at a .723 percentage and allowed just 23 goals, to lead the team. Weaver moved her school record of shutouts to three in her career with a career-high two this season over Texas Wesleyan and No. 18 Central Oklahoma. Richardson saw action in 15 games and recorded two assists and 10 shots.

A total of 336 intercollegiate soccer programs (71 men, 265 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2002-03 school year. Of that total, 48 schools had both their men’s and women’s programs recognized, including 23 schools that received double honors for the second consecutive year. The awards will be presented at the College Coaches Luncheon on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, as part of the 57th Annual NSCAA Convention, to be held in Charlotte, N.C., Jan. 14-18, 2004. Texas Woman’s University earned the Academic Award for recording a team GPA of 3.28 under head coach Fleur Benatar.
