PIONEERS EARN HONORABLE MENTION
ALL-CONFERENCE IN SOCCER
DENTON, TX—The Lone Star Conference
announced the 2003 All-Conference Soccer teams and three
Texas Woman’s University players were named Honorable
Mention at their respective positions. Julie Hosek
(Keller, TX/Keller H.S.) and Collette
Parker (Denton, TX/Denton H.S.) were tabbed
Honorable Mention All-Conference at defender while Sara
Weaver (Prosper, TX/Prosper H.S.) earned her
second straight honor at goalkeeper.
Hosek
finished the season by leading the team with 44 shots and
a .023 shooting percentage. She scored one goal in TWU’s
1-1 tie against eventual conference champion West Texas A&M
and also chipped in with two assists. Parker, who played
opposite Hosek on defense, generated just five shots
in 17 games played. Both players were key members in a defense that allowed
opponents a .182 shooting percentage on 258 shots. Weaver, who was named
Honorable Mention All-Conference as a freshman in 2002, finished with a
3-7 record in goal. She recorded 60 saves at a .723 percentage and allowed
just 23 goals, to lead the team. Weaver moved her school record of shutouts
to three in her career with a career-high two this season over Texas Wesleyan
and No. 18 Central Oklahoma.
