BUTLER
AND ROMBERG NAMED SECOND TEAM
ALL-CONFERENCE IN SOCCER

soccer program Texas Woman's University landed three players
on the 2002 All-Lone Star Conference soccer team with senior
forward Luci Romberg (Foxfield, CO/Cherry Creek H.S.) and
freshman forward Erica Butler (Burleson, TX/Burleson
HS) both named to the second team. Freshman goalkeeper Sara
Weaver (Prosper, TX/Prosper H.S.) earned Honorable
Mention All-Conference honors.
Romberg
finished the 2002 season with four goals, three assists,
11 points and a shooting percentage of .121. She tied for
the team lead in points and assists and recorded TWU's second
multiple-goal game when she scored two goals in a 4-0 win
over Schreiner University. Butler led the team with 50 shots
and totaled two goals, three assists and seven points. She
tied Romberg and fellow teammate Melissa
Scott (Denton, TX/Denton H.S.) as team leaders with
three assists. Butler notched her name in the record books
as the first Pioneer to record a goal in TWU soccer history,
coming in a 5-0 win over Wayland Baptist. Weaver became the
team's starting goalkeeper midway through the season and
finished with a record of 2-5-2 with 86 saves and 31 goals
allowed.
Central
Oklahoma and Midwestern State led all teams with a combined
eight of the possible 13 selections to the 2002 All-Conference
team. UCO had four players chosen to the first team, including
forward Kim Brown who repeated as the league's offensive
player-of-the-year. Brown, a Norman, Okla. senior, led the
league in goals scored with 20 for the second straight time.
Midwestern State also landed four players on the first team
led by Sarah Sawyer the repeat winner of the league's
defensive player-of-the-year. Her teammate Megan Dodson was
chosen as the league's top freshman. UCO's Mike Cook was
selected as the league's coach-of-the-year after guiding
the Bronchos to a 20-2 record and the LSC Tournament Championship.
The squad was chosen by a vote of the league's nine head
coaches.
