BUTLER AND ROMBERG NAMED SECOND TEAM
ALL-CONFERENCE IN SOCCER

DENTON, TX—First-year soccer program Texas Woman's University landed three players on the 2002 All-Lone Star Conference soccer team with senior forward Luci Romberg (Foxfield, CO/Cherry Creek H.S.) and freshman forward Erica Butler (Burleson, TX/Burleson HS) both named to the second team. Freshman goalkeeper Sara Weaver (Prosper, TX/Prosper H.S.) earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors.

Romberg finished the 2002 season with four goals, three assists, 11 points and a shooting percentage of .121. She tied for the team lead in points and assists and recorded TWU's second multiple-goal game when she scored two goals in a 4-0 win over Schreiner University. Butler led the team with 50 shots and totaled two goals, three assists and seven points. She tied Romberg and fellow teammate Melissa Scott (Denton, TX/Denton H.S.) as team leaders with three assists. Butler notched her name in the record books as the first Pioneer to record a goal in TWU soccer history, coming in a 5-0 win over Wayland Baptist. Weaver became the team's starting goalkeeper midway through the season and finished with a record of 2-5-2 with 86 saves and 31 goals allowed.

Central Oklahoma and Midwestern State led all teams with a combined eight of the possible 13 selections to the 2002 All-Conference team. UCO had four players chosen to the first team, including forward Kim Brown who repeated as the league's offensive player-of-the-year. Brown, a Norman, Okla. senior, led the league in goals scored with 20 for the second straight time. Midwestern State also landed four players on the first team led by Sarah Sawyer — the repeat winner of the league's defensive player-of-the-year. Her teammate Megan Dodson was chosen as the league's top freshman. UCO's Mike Cook was selected as the league's coach-of-the-year after guiding the Bronchos to a 20-2 record and the LSC Tournament Championship. The squad was chosen by a vote of the league's nine head coaches.
