TWU AND ST.EDWARD'S
PLAY TO 0-0 TIE IN SOCCER
DENTON,
TXTexas Woman's University (5-9-2) recorded
their second tie in the past three games when neither the Pioneers
nor St. Edward's (5-10-2) could find the goal after
90:00 minutes of play and two overtimes. Goalkeepers Sara
Weaver (Prosper, TX/Prosper HS) of TWU and Donna Welles
of St. Edward's recorded a total of 18 saves in the shutout.
St. Edward's was the more aggressive team during the game,
recording 22 shots to the Pioneers 12, but both defenses played
strong and did not allow either team many good chances at a
clean goal. TWU had seven shots on the goal while the Hilltoppers
recorded 12. With 1:34 left to go in the game, St. Edward's
appeared to score the winning goal but was called offside and
the game finished regulation at 0-0. The Hilltoppers had five
shots during the two overtime periods, but Weaver made three
saves to end the game in a deadlock.
Erica
Butler (Burleson, TX/Burleson H.S.) led the
Pioneers with four shots during the game, one on goal. Stephanie
Richardson (Duncanville, TX/Duncanville HS), Melissa Scott
(Denton, TX/Denton HS) and Luci Romberg (Foxfield,
CO/Cherry Creek H.S.) each turned in two shots for the
Pioneers. St. Edward's had the advantage with 10 corner kicks
to the Pioneers two, but the Hilltoppers also committed 19
fouls to TWU's eight.
Up
next, the Pioneers finish up their inaugural season when
they host Angelo State University on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2
p.m. TWU lost to Angelo State 0-5 in the first game of the
season.
