TWU AND SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA BATTLE TO 1-1 TIE

DENTON, TX—After 110 minutes of soccer were played in winter conditions, Texas Woman's University (5-8-1, 0-5-1) and Southwestern Oklahoma (6-8-2, 0-4-1) still could not decide on a winner as the game ended after two overtimes, 1-1. Both teams scored their goals in the first half of play, with Julie Hosek (Keller, TX/Keller H.S.) scoring for the Pioneers in the 37th minute.

Southwestern Oklahoma got on the board first when Jacquelyn Morgan scored from 15 yards out with 27:17 showing on the clock. Roughly 10 minutes later, Erica Butler (Burleson, TX/Burleson H.S.) sent a corner kick to the middle of the field where Luci Romberg (Foxfield, CO/Cherry Creek H.S.) deflected the ball to Hosek, who headed the ball into the goal, knotting the game at 1-1. That turned out to be the last goal on the evening as both teams saw golden opportunities to score go wide of the net. The Pioneers finished with 26 shots during the game, with 11 of those on goal, while the Bulldogs had 17 shots, 12 on goal. Each goalkeeper allowed one goal while TWU's Sara Weaver (Prosper, TX/Prosper H.S.) made 11 saves while her counterpart Amanda Crabtree recorded 10.

The goal by Hosek was her third on the season as she finished the game with eight shots, three on goal. Other notable performances for TWU were Luci Romberg (Foxfield, CO/Cherry Creek H.S.) and Butler both recording five shots and one assist apiece. The Pioneers had six shots during both overtime periods while Southwestern Oklahoma State recorded three. TWU was flagged with 17 fouls and had five corner kicks during the game.

Up next, the Pioneers will host Texas A&M-Commerce on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 3 p.m. This game was rescheduled because of rain and poor field conditions last Wednesday. TWU will finish up their season next weekend when they host St. Edward's University on Friday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. and Angelo State on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.
