PIONEERS LOSE TOUGH
DECISION TO MIDWESTERN STATE IN SOCCER
WICHITA
FALLS, TX—The Texas Woman's University
(5-6, 0-3 LSC) soccer team fell behind, 4-0, in the first half
and could not score enough goals to overcome that deficit,
losing 5-2 to Midwestern State in Lone Star Conference
play.
“The girls came out flat in the first period and Midwestern
State made us pay for that. The second half was a different
game because we came out of the intermission and dominated,” head
coach Fleur Benatar said. “I made a lot of position changes
and Melissa Williams and Misty Blaylock did a real good job
in the middle for us. We won the second half, but we couldn't
score enough to come from behind.”
Down 0-4 after one period, the Pioneers out-played and out-scored
Midwestern State in the second half 2-1. Luci Romberg (Foxfield,
CO/Cherry Creek H.S.) put TWU on the board with her
fourth goal of the season off of a penalty kick. TWU's second
score came when Lacey Steinkamp (Sugar Land, TX/Clements
H.S.) punched in her second goal of the season.

next, the Pioneers have a week off before they host East
Central on Friday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m.
