NORTHEASTERN STATE
HANDS PIONEERS FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS IN SOCCER
TAHLEQUAH,
OKThe Texas Woman's University soccer
team (5-4, 0-1 LSC) got their first taste of Lone Star Conference
action and it did not set to well as Northeastern State University
(6-3-2, 1-0 LSC) shutout the Pioneers 0-4.
We played below of what we are capable of playing and
lost to an opponent that we should have beaten. The girls played
even in the first 15 minutes, then I had to make some changes
because we were not connecting, head coach Fleur
Benatar said. I am very disappointed because we did not play
our game today. We looked like we didn't come out to play in
the second period.
Northeastern got on the board early when Susan Day scored
on a shot in the 11th minute. The Pioneers defense
strengthened for the rest of the first period, allowing the
Lady Reds only four shots while TWU totaled five in the frame.
NSU jumped their lead to 0-2 in the first minute of the second
half when Kelly Lamia scored on an assist from Stacey Cutler.
The Lady Reds added another goal at the 50:24 mark, then iced
the game when Day earned her second goal of the game during
the 85th minute. The Pioneers totaled eight shots,
five on goal, while Northeastern scored their four goals off
of 14 shots. Stephanie Stein (Trophy Club, TX/Northwest
H.S.) played the entire game at goal for TWU, earning four
saves and four goals allowed. Brittany Whorton (Flower Mound,
TX/Middle Tennessee St.) led the team with three shots,
one of them on goal.
Next
up, the Pioneers continue their conference road trip as they
travel to Canyon, Texas, to face West Texas A&M
on Friday, Oct. 4 with a game time of 4 p.m. They will then
play Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas, on Saturday,
Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.
