FLORES
SELECTED AS PIONEERS’ LSC
SCHOLAR-ATHLETE
DENTON,
TX— Texas Woman’s
senior softball player Teresa Flores (Corpus Christi,
TX) was one of nearly 30 student-athletes recognized
by the Lone Star Conference as the league announced its annual
LSC Scholar-Athlete Award for 2003-04.
The 2004 LSC South Division Player of the Year,
Flores was also recognized nationally with Louisville Slugger/NFCA
Third Team All-America honors. She led the team this season
with a .484 batting average, 92 hits, 21 doubles, 10 triples
and 57 RBIs. Teresa ends her career with sole possession
of 25 school records and sharing another seven TWU records
for batting and fielding.
Flores
also shines in the classroom as a Kinesiology major. She
just received her third consecutive selection
to the Lone Star All-Academic Team and was voted to the CoSIDA
Academic All-District VI First Team. She was also awarded
the prestigious TWU President’s Award.
Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete
Award to one male and one female student-athlete at each
member institution. These student-athletes are selected as
representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics,
scholarship and leadership that are displayed on each LSC
campus during the year.
To
be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have
participated at least two years in their sport
and must have exhausted their athletic eligibility. In addition
to representing each of the league’s 15 member institutions,
this year’s recipients represent 10 of the 16 sports
that are sponsored by the league. Members of this year’s
group led their respective teams to five LSC divisional titles,
two LSC championships, three NCAA regional titles and one
NCAA national championship. Fifteen of the recipients call
Texas home, while 10 are from Oklahoma and one each from
Arizona, Kansas and New Mexico. Another comes from Italy.
