COLLINS’ HOME
RUN GIVES TWU A WIN AGAINST NORTHWOOD
Pioneers Set School Record With Three Triples in Game
DENTON,
Tex. – Texas
Woman’s University senior Jennifer Collins
(Forney, TX) hit a two-run homer over the left field
fence to end a 9-1 victory against Northwood in the first
game of a doubleheader Tuesday night at Pioneer Field.
TWU also set a school record with three triples
in the game, with two from individual record-holder Teresa
Flores (Corpus Christi, TX) and a RBI-triple from
junior Lauren Gustartis (Bellaire, TX) in
the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Pioneers won the second game with an 8-0
decision in five innings to improve to 35-11 on the season.
Sophomore Sarah White (Lewisville, TX) went
2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles as she scored Stefani
Easter (Troy, TX) for the final run of the game.
Senior Nikki Boudreaux (Orange, TX) also
added two doubles in the game and had a team-best five hits
for the night.
Freshman pitcher Lindsy
Russ-Keller (Dickinson, TX) started the second game on the
mound for TWU, striking out seven Knights in just four
innings. Russ-Keller shared the shutout with sophomore
teammate Amanda Chambless (Collinsville, TX).
“We started slow in the first three innings,” said
TWU head coach Dianne Baker. “I told
them they needed to enjoy the game because when you have
the desire you can do well. They were more themselves in
the second game. I was thankful for our hitting tonight,
especially Sarah White who is believing in her swing again.”
The No. 11 Pioneers conclude their Lone Star
Conference regular season as they travel to Tarleton State
for 1 p.m. doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
