SLAM FINISHES OFF TEXAS WESLEYAN
Flores Hits for the Cycle in Game Two Against the Rams
FT.
WORTH, Tex. – Texas
Woman’s University junior Lauren
Gustartis (Bellaire, TX) drilled a grand slam in the fifth
inning to cap off a 17-0 victory over host Texas Wesleyan
Wednesday night.
Gustartis also homered in the second game as
the Pioneers swept the non-conference doubleheader with an
11-2 victory. Senior shortstop Teresa Flores (Corpus
Christi, TX) went 4-for-4 as she hit for the cycle
with her own home run and leads the team in doubles and triples.
Junior Stefani Easter (Troy, TX) continued
to hold her spot as the team’s home run leader as she
hit her ninth of the season, going 2-for-3 at the plate with
three RBIs in the first game.
“We really needed a couple of wins to
get us back on the right track,” said TWU head coach Dianne
Baker. “We hit the ball well and everybody
did their job today. That’s what we need to keep doing
the rest of the season.”
Defensively, freshman pitcher Lindsy
Russ-Keller (Dickinson, TX) struck out seven Rams
in five innings as she hurled a one-hitter in the first
game. Senior Dawn England (Graham, TX) was
credited with the win in game two.
The No. 11 Pioneers (31-9) will host Lone Star
Conference foe Abilene Christian to 1 p.m. doubleheaders
on both Friday and Saturday, April 16 and 17.
