TWU SOFTBALL SWEPT
BY LONE STAR FOE ANGELO STATE
Pioneers Miss Chance to Take Sole Possession of LSC
Lead
SAN
ANGELO, Tex. – The
No. 16 Texas Woman’s University softball team dropped
both games in Saturday’s doubleheader at No. 13 Angelo
State. The 5-2 and 2-0 TWU losses moved Angelo State into
sole possession of first place in the Lone Star Conference
South Division as both teams were tied for first entering
the weekend series. Friday’s doubleheader was cancelled
due to rain.
The Pioneers were down 4-0 entering the fourth
inning of the first game. Junior Stefani
Easter (Troy,
TX) tried to begin a rally as she drilled a solo
home run into left field with two outs. Easter scored the
only other run of the game off an RBI-double from sophomore Amanda
Arnold (The Colony, TX) as the game ended 5-2.
In the second game, TWU senior Nikki
Boudreaux (Orange, TX) broke up a no-hitter in
the top of the seventh inning with a single up the middle.
Freshman pitcher Lindsy
Russ-Keller (Dickinson,
TX) returned to the mound after more than a week
of nursing a shoulder strain to strike out five Belles.
Russ-Keller fell to 11-5 as the Pioneers were shutout for
only the second time this season in the 2-0 loss.
“They took advantage of every little
thing we did,” said TWU head coach Dianne Baker. “We
really didn’t play bad ball, they just found a way
to capitalize on our mistakes.”
The Pioneers (29-8, 6-4 LSC) will play a single
game at Southeastern Oklahoma, a member of the Lone Star
Conference North Division, this Thursday, April 8 at 5 p.m.
