WOMAN'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS CONFERENCE SERIES
Three Homers Pace Pioneer Offense Against Eastern New Mexico
PORTALES,
N.M. -- The
No. 16 Texas Woman's University softball team swept Eastern
New Mexico in their weekend conference series wi th 9-4
and 8-2 wins in Saturday's doubleheader.
The
Pioneers improved to 6-2 in the Lone Star Conference South
Division despite heavy winds up to 45 mph in Portales.
Senior Teresa
Flores (Corpus Christi, TX) started off the Pioneer
offense with a solo home run. Nikki Boudreaux (Orange,
TX) drilled a triple in the next at-bat then scored
off a two-run homer from junior catcher Stefani
Easter (Troy, TX). The hit was Easter's third
home run of the weekend and a team-best seventh on the
seas on. Senior Dawn England (Graham, TX) was
credited with the win and remains undefeated on the season
with an 8-0 record.
TWU
continued to dominate in the second game as Boudreaux drilled
her first home run of the season and Flores went a perfect
4-for-4.
"It's
not easy winning on the road, much less under these conditions," said
TWU head coach Dianne Baker. "We continue
to hit the ball extremely well and we have players doing
stuff for us when we need it."
The
Pioneers (28-5, 6-2 LSC) will host No. 2 St. Mary's to a
4 p.m. doubleheader at Pioneer Field on Tuesday, March 30.
