SPLIT CONFERENCE SERIES WITH KINGSVILLE
Easter’s Solo Homer & Triple Not Enough Offense
DENTON,
Tex. – The Texas Woman’s University
softball team split its Lone Star Conference series with
Texas A&M-Kingsville, dropping a 3-1 and 7-3 decision
in Saturday’s doubleheader.
In
the first game, the Javelinas got on the board first in the
top of the fourth on an one-run double from pitcher Robyn
Jensen. TWU junior catcher Stefani
Easter (Troy,
TX) answered with a solo homer in the bottom of
the fourth, but was the only Pioneer run scored in the 3-1
loss.
The
Pioneers took an early lead in the second game when sophomore Amanda
Arnold (The Colony, TX) scored senior Jennifer
Collins (Forney, TX) off a single to right field
in the first inning. However, seven Javelinas rounded the
bases in the next three innings. TWU did not respond until
Easter drilled a triple deep into right, then scored on a
throwing error by the right fielder.
Senior Teresa
Flores (Corpus Christi, TX), the two-time Lone
Star Conference Player of the Week, hit a sacrifice fly
into left field to score Lauren
Gustartis (Bellaire,
TX). It just wasn’t enough as the Javalinas
earned the 7-3 victory.
“The
game is easy,” TWU head coach Dianne Baker said. “You
show up and do your job, you win. We didn’t show up
today. We can’t let anything slide in conference play
and we let it slide.”
The
Pioneers (22-5, 2-2 LSC) will host Northwest Missouri State
for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, March 24
at 3 p.m.
