SOFTBALL
SIGNS FOUR EARLY
DENTON,
TX—Texas Woman’s University head softball
coach Dianne Baker announced the signing of four players
to national letters of intent for
the upcoming 2004-05 academic school year. The four players were Stevie
Smith (Plano, TX/Plano HS), Rhonda Sherman (Highland Village, TX/Flower
Mound Marcus HS), Amanda Danesi (Santa Fe, TX/Santa Fe HS) and Leighanne
Meador (Dickinson, TX/ Dickinson HS).
Smith
is a 5-4 outfielder who will graduate from Plano Senior High
School in May 2004. She is a letterwinner
in basketball and softball for the Wildcats.
As a freshman, Smith was voted her team’s Most Valuable Player
by recording the highest batting average on the squad. Last season,
she earned
Honorable Mention All-District honors. Born on Mar. 28, 1986, Stevie
is the daughter of Mark and Kathaleene Smith of Plano. She plans
to major in Education and enjoys swimming and surfing in her spare
time.
Sherman
is a 5-3 utility player who lettered in softball at Flower
Mound Marcus High School. She has been named
First Team All-District 6-5A her
first
three years of school while also earning the Marauders Offensive
MVP award as a freshman and sophomore. Sherman added
team MVP and All-Denton
County
honors in 2003. She is a member of Who’s Who Among American
High School Athletes, Who’s Who Among American High School
Students and the Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society. Born on Oct. 23,
1986, Rhonda
Ann is
the daughter of Patty Sherman of Highland Village. Sherman would
like to study Psychology at TWU and enjoys reading and swimming
in her spare
time.
Danesi
is a two-time First Team All-District 23-4A selection who
lettered in softball at Santa Fe High School for
three years. She will graduate
in
May of 2004. Danesi earned Honorable Mention All-District honors
as a freshman and followed that season up by being
named First Team All-District
and
Honorable Mention All-County in 2002. She was tabbed First Team
All-County and named to the Round Rock All-Tournament
Team last season. A dedicated
student as well, Danesi won first place in the University Interscholastic
League Chemistry contest and is a two-year member of Who’s
Who Among American High School Students. Born on Dec. 27, 1985,
Amanda Gail
is the
daughter of Anthony and Kathy Danesi of Santa Fe, Texas. Her
high school coach was Donna Rice. Danesi plans on studying Chemistry
at TWU.
Meador
is a 5-5 outfielder who will graduate in May 2004 from Dickinson
High School. She is a letterwinner in volleyball and softball.
