INGRAM
AND TAYLOR EARN LOUISVILLE SLUGGER/NFCA
ALL-AMERICA HONORS
Ingram
Named Catcher-of-the-Year for Division II
SALEM,
Ore.The National Fastpitch Coaches Association
(NFCA) announced the 2003 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America
teams and Texas Woman's University placed two athletes
on the squads. Jami Ingram (Richmond, BC/Blinn College) was
selected to the first team while fellow senior Sascha
Taylor (Mansfield, TX/ Stephen F. Austin) was named
to the second team. Ingram also took home the Diamond Catcher-of-the-Year
Award, given to the best catcher in Division II softball.
The All-America honors and post-season awards were handed
out in a ceremony Wednesday night before the start of the
NCAA Division II Softball Championship at Western Oregon
University in Salem, Oregon.
I
am very excited that Jami Ingram and Sascha Taylor were recognized
as All-Americans for the second year in a row. Jami put up
some great numbers this season and she deserves all of the
recognition. Even though Sascha didn't put up as good of
numbers as she did last year, the All-America committee showed
a lot of respect by placing her on the second team, Dianne
Baker said. It was also very exciting for Jami to win
the Catcher-of-the-Year award. Winning that award says a
lot about how good a player Jami is because it is such a
huge honor. This award is good for our program as well as
Texas Woman's University.
Jami Ingram
added another honor to her long list of post-season awards
with the First Team All-America selection. She was named
First Team All-Lone Star Conference South Division and First
Team NFCA All-South Central Region at catcher along with
being named to the conference All-Academic team in 2003.
Ingram ended her two years at TWU with four school records
for most homeruns hit in a season (14) and a career (18)
and most RBIs hit in a season (56) and a career (92). She
finished the 2003 season with a .333 batting average, 53
hits in 159 at-bats, 13 doubles, 141 putouts and 17 assists.
Ingram is the first player in TWU history to win the Diamond
Catcher-of-the-Year award and she is also the first player
since the softball team was reinstated in 1997 to earn First
Team All-America.
I
am completely speechless about winning the Catcher-of-the-Year
award and that says a lot, because I am not speechless very
much. It is a great feeling to win because there are so many
great catchers in Division II softball. It is an honor just
to be recognized, but to be named First Team All-America
and win the Catcher-of-the-Year award in the same night is
very hard to put into words of how excited I am, Ingram
said. I could not have asked for
a better way to end my college career.
Sascha
Taylor added a few honors of her own in 2003 as she was named
Second Team All-Conference South Division, Lone Star Conference
All-Tournament Team and First Team NFCA All-South Central
Region at outfielder to go along with her Second Team All-America
selection. She ended her two-year career at TWU by batting
.428 with 59 hits on 138 at-bats, 11 RBI, 41 runs scored
and 33 stolen bases in 2003. Taylor started 45 games in left
field and recorded 46 putouts and three assists on two errors
for a .961 fielding percentage. She leaves school as the
record holder for consecutive stolen bases in a season with
54 in 2002.
Ingram
and Taylor were both named NFCA All-Americans in 2002, marking
the first time in school history that two teammates were
selected to back-to-back All-America teams.
