STAR CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES SOFTBALL ALL-ACADEMIC AWARDS
RICHARDSON,
TXLeague officials from the Lone Star Conference
announced the 2003 South Division All-Academic Softball
Team and Texas Woman's University had a league-high three
players named to the squad. Senior Jami Ingram (Richmond,
BC/ Blinn College) and juniors Teresa Flores (Corpus
Christi, TX/Miller H.S.) and Dawn England (Graham,
TX/Graham H.S.) were named to the 2003 All-Academic
Team. This is the second straight year that Flores and
England were named to the team.
To
be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must
carry at least
a 3.20 grade point average with a minimum of 24 semester

is selected from the list of academically qualified players,
with the league's sports information directors voting on
the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. All
qualifying student-athletes that are not selected for the
All-Academic Team are then named to the Commissioner's Honor
Roll. In addition to TWU's three All-Academic Team selections,
Angelo State, Eastern New Mexico and Tarleton State had two
players each on the list, while Abilene Christian and Texas
A&M-Kingsville added one apiece.
Jami Ingram
ended her two years at TWU with four school records for most
homeruns hit in a season (14) and a career (18) and most
RBIs hit in a season (56) and a career (92). She was selected
First Team NFCA All-Region and First Team All-Conference
South Division last week. Teresa Flores earned First Team
Verizon Academic All-District VI and First Team All-Conference
South Division honors in 2003 while leading the team and
conference in triples with nine. She now owns Pioneer records
for most triples hit in a season (9) and for a career (18).
Dawn England led TWU with a 2.21 ERA and a record of 17-6,
which helped her earn Second Team All-Conference South Division
honors. She was named Second Team Verizon Academic All-District
VI last week.
