SIX PIONEERS NAMED
ALL-LONE STAR CONFERENCE SOUTH DIVISION IN SOFTBALL

TXThe Lone Star Conference announced the
2003 All-Conference South Division team and Texas Woman's University
placed six players on both squads. Senior Jami Ingram
(Richmond, BC/Blinn College), and juniors Jennifer
Collins (Forney, TX/Grayson C.C.) and Teresa
Flores (Corpus Christi, TX/ Miller H.S.) were selected
First Team All-LSC South Division while
juniors Dawn England (Graham, TX/Graham H.S.) and Nikki
Boudreaux (Orange, TX/ Navarro College) and senior Sascha
Taylor (Mansfield, TX/Stephen F. Austin) were
named Second Team All-LSC South Division.
Ingram earned her second straight All-Conference selection
after leading the league in homeruns (14) and RBIs (56) in
2003. She now owns Pioneer records for most homeruns and RBIs
hit in a season and most homeruns and RBIs hit in a career.
Collins finished her first season at TWU by finishing third
in the conference and first on the team in batting average
with a .445. She also finished tied for second in hits (76),
second in RBIs (53) and second in doubles (18) in the LSC,
helping her earn Rookie-of-the-Year honors. Flores hit at a
.402 clip this season and led the league with nine triples,
which is a new school record. She now owns the TWU career mark
for most triples hit in a career with 18. England finished
off 2003 by leading the Pioneers with a 2.21 ERA and a 17-6
mark. She struck out 118 batters and allowed only 48 earned
runs on 121 hits in 152 innings of work. Taylor started 45
games in left field and finished with .428 batting average,
good enough to place her fifth in the conference and second
on the team. She led the team and finished third in the league
with 33 stolen bases. Boudreaux started all 60 games in center
field for the Pioneers and led all outfielders with 71 putouts.
She hit a .358 clip and recorded 10 doubles, five triples and
one homerun.
Collins
and Taylor were also both named to the Lone Star Conference
All-Tournament team. Collins recorded
her selection at third base while Taylor picked up her honor
at designated player.
Lone Star Conference champion Angelo State placed five players
on the first team and five more on the second team when league
officials released the LSC South Division postseason honors
for softball. ASU's 10 selections was the most of any school,
while Texas Woman's added six overall picks and Tarleton State
had five. Angelo State and Tarleton shared the regular season
South Division championship, while TWU finished third in the
standings. Tarleton made its presence felt with the special
recognition awards as outfielder Monica Garza was hailed as
Player-of-the-Year, right-hander Carla Geeslin as Pitcher-of-the-Year
and skipper Julie Mata as Coach-of-the-Year. Eastern New Mexico
outfielder Nikki Gay was named Freshman-of-the-Year.
