BAKER
ADDS TWO PLAYERS TO 2004 SOFTBALL ROSTER
DENTON,
TXTexas
Woman's University head softball coach Dianne
Baker announced the signing of Crystal
Hankel (Calgary, Alberta/Minnesota State-Moorhead/Bishop
Carroll H.S.) and Lindsy
Russ-Keller (Bacliff, TX/Dickinson HS) to national
letters of intent for the 2003-2004 academic school year. Hankel
is a pitcher who lettered for one season at Minnesota State
University-Moorhead in 2002 while Russ-Keller will graduate
from Dickinson High School in May of this year.
Both of these girls have a lot of potential and will
help get this team to the next level. Crystal is our second
player from Canada and she has a lot of good experience playing
on the Canada National Team and at Minnesota State-Moorhead.
Lindsy is a very good pitcher who will bring a lot of confidence
and a winning attitude to our staff, Baker said. Both of these girls are not just great softball
players, but good students in the classroom as well.
Hankel graduated from Bishop Carroll High School in 2001 and
went on to become a starting pitcher for Minnesota State-Moorhead
in 2002. While as MSU-M, she was an honor student with a 3.70
GPA. Hankel received the Top Pitcher Award at the Canadian
Nationals in 2002, finishing the tournament with a 0.55 ERA
and posting 26 strikeouts. She also competed in the Midget
Nationals in 2000 and 2001, helping guide her teams to a fifth
place finish in both years. During the 2001 Canada Summer Games,
Hankel's team won a silver medal and she was named MVP of one
of the semifinal games. She is a member of the Calgary Double
Diamond Fast Pitch club team and her hobbies include running,
hiking, roller blading and skiing. Born October 20, 1983, Crystal
is the daughter of Clarence and Cathy Hankel of Calgary, Alberta.
Russ-Keller is a three-year letterwinner at Dickinson High
School. She has played club softball with the Mystixxs 18U
Gold team and the Friendswood Illusions during high school.
As a sophomore, Russ-Keller earned First Team All-District
honors while also being named to the Fort Bend I.S.D. All-Tournament
Team for throwing two perfect games and two shutouts in four
appearances. She was tabbed First Team All-District, District
MVP, First Team All-County and All-County Player-of-the-Year
in 2002 after leading the Gators to the school's first ever
district championship and appearance in the Regional Finals.
Russ-Keller was named team captain her senior year, but no
awards have been given out at the time of this release. Born
on July 17, 1985, she is the daughter of Jo Russ-Keller and
Ken Keller of Bacliff, Texas. Russ-Keller enjoys coaching young
softball players in her spare time and is going to pursue studies
toward a Criminal Justice degree at TWU.
