ANGELO STATE SWEEPS PIONEERS IN FOUR

DENTON, TX—Angelo State (37-5, 9-3 LSC) picked up where they left off last night, handing Texas Woman's University (28-15-1, 7-5 LSC) two more losses in conference action. The Rambelles scored 18 runs off of 18 hits in a 18-5 win in game one, then came from three runs down in the third inning to close out the four-game sweep with a 6-5 win in game two.

TWU looked ready to avenge their two losses on Friday night as they took an early 1-0 lead in game one. Jami Ingram (Richmond, BC/Blinn College) hit a RBI-single to left field with two runners on base, scoring Amanda Arnold (The Colony, TX/The Colony H.S.). ASU quickly tied the game when Jamie McGalliard scored on a passed by TWU catcher Stefani Easter (Troy, TX/Sam Houston St.). The Rambelles continued their scoring in the top of the third when Cat Moreno hit a solo homerun in the second at-bat. After Andrea Payan hit a single to center field, McGalliard sent Amanda Chambless' (Collinsville, TX/Collinsville H.S.) pitch over the left field fence for a two-run homerun. ASU was not done as Alexis Wing singled to center field, driving in two more runs and giving the Rambelles a 1-6 lead. In the bottom of the third, Nikki Boudreaux (Orange, TX/Navarro College) scored an unearned run on an error by the ASU shortstop, and then Ingram hit a RBI-double to close the gap to 3-6. The Rambelles hit around for two straight innings and scored 12 more runs to blow the game open. Relief pitcher Claudia Lopez retired the final three Pioneer' batters to end the game, 5-18, after five innings of play. Chambless recorded her third straight loss in the series, moving her record to 12-6 by allowing 18 runs, 11 earned, on 18 hits.

The Pioneers came out firing in game two, taking a 3-0 lead after one inning. Boudreaux hit a RBI-single to center field, then Jami Ingram connected with her eighth homerun of the season, a two-run shot that went over the left field fence. Both teams went scoreless in the second inning, then ASU put five runs on the board to take a 3-5 lead. Diana Faulkner started the scoring when she hit a RBI-double to left field with two runners on base. The bases were loaded three batters later when Stephanie Kirkpatrick hit an infield single to TWU first baseman Arnold, allowing Michelle Hoffman to score from third. Andrea Payan hit a RBI-single in the next at-bat, then Jessica Oberhelman doubled to right field, scoring the final two runners in the inning. The Pioneers added a run in the bottom of the fourth to draw within one, 4-5. After the Rambelles' Faulkner hit a solo homerun in the top of the seventh, TWU tried to rally in the bottom half of the inning. Boudreaux scored on a ground out by Ingram with two outs, making the score 5-6, then Arnold was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat. Megan Helms (Krum, TX/Krum H.S.) fouled off two pitches, then grounded out to the first baseman for the final out. Devin Blew (Crowley, TX/Crowley H.S.) moved her record to 4-6 with the loss after she allowed six runs on nine hits.

Up next, the Pioneers continue their home stand as they host defending national champion St. Mary's University in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 8 beginning at 5:00 p.m.
