DENTON,
TXTexas
Woman's University (22-11-1) scattered 13 hits and scored
11 runs in a 11-1 rout of the
University of Texas-Dallas (7-9) in game one of their doubleheader.
But in the nightcap, the Pioneers had to come from behind
as Jami Ingram (Richmond, BC/Blinn College) blasted
a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning to give
TWU a 3-2 win. Ingram finished the double header by going 3
for 5 from the plate with a double, a homer and four RBI.
TWU
got things rolling early in game one as Nikki
Boudreaux (Orange, TX/ Navarro College) put the first
run on the board when she bunted, allowing Sascha Taylor
(Mansfield, TX/Stephen F. Austin) to score from third
base. Teresa
Flores (Corpus Christi, TX/Miller H.S.) came up to
bat and hit her league-leading eighth triple of the season
down the left field line, scoring Boudreaux. Two batters
later, Jami Ingram hit a RBI-single through the middle of
the infield to score Flores and make the score 3-0 after
one full inning. After UT-Dallas added a run in the top of
the third, TWU added three more runs in the bottom half of
the inning. Flores connected with her second RBI of the game
in the bottom of the fourth inning when she singled to left
field, scoring Boudreaux and making the score 7-1. Jennifer
Collins hit a double and moved Flores over to third in the
next at-bat, then Ingram grounded out to the second baseman,
scoring another run. Amanda Arnold (The Colony, TX/The
Colony H.S.) kept the scoring spree going as she hit
a single to right field, scoring Collins from second base. Stefani
Easter (Troy, TX/Sam Houston State) stepped up to the
plate a batter later and connected with her second double
of the game, scoring Arnold and moving the score to 10-1.
Easter scored the last run for TWU when she was brought in
on a RBI-single by Sarah White (Lewisville, TX/Lewisville
H.S.). Starting pitcher Dawn England (Graham, TX/Graham
H.S.) retired the final three Comet batters to end the
game after five innings. England moved her record to 12-2
on the season after allowing just three hits and one run
while striking out one.
Game two was close as both pitchers, Stephanie Herrera of
UT-Dallas and TWU's Amanda Chambless (Collinsville, TX/Collinsville
H.S.), allowed just six hits through three full innings.
The Pioneers took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second
as Stefani Easter singled to right field, scoring Rachel
Townsend (Jacksonville, AK/Jacksonville H.S.) from third
base. The Comets came back in the top of the fourth as Christina
Sass hit a hard shot to the pitcher with the bases loaded and
scoring one run. In the next at-bat, Sarah Arldt reached on
an error by the TWU first baseman, allowing Tiffany Maynard
to score and pushing UT-Dallas into the lead, 1-2. In the bottom
of the fifth with two out and a runner on second, Jami Ingram
sent the first pitch over the left field fence to give TWU
the lead for good, 3-2. Devin Blew (Crowley, TX/Crowley
H.S.), who was brought in to relieve Chambless in the top
of the fifth inning, retired the final six Comet batters to
record the 3-2 victory. Blew moved her record to 2-6 on the
season after allowing just two hits in three innings of work.
Chambless pitched four innings and allowed seven hits and two
runs while striking out three in 19 batters faced.
