CAL STATE-BAKERSFIELD ENDS PIONEERS' TOURNAMENT RUN
LAS
VEGAS, NVNo. 25 California State-Bakersfield
scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to come from
behind and beat Texas Woman's University (2-3) 4-3 in the Las
Vegas Classic. The loss ended the Pioneers three-day run at
the tournament.

and Cal State-Bakersfield were tied at one apiece after three
innings of play. The Pioneers' Jennifer Collins (Euless,
TX/Grayson C.C.) led off the fourth inning with a double
and was moved over to third base while Megan Helms (Krum,
TX/ Krum H.S.) moved to second after Amanda Arnold
(Lewisville, TX/Lewisville H.S.) sacrificed a bunt. Stefani
Easter (Troy, TX/Sam Houston St.) broke the tie when
she hit an RBI-single, scoring Collins. One batter later, Courtney
Martin (Lake Dallas, TX/Lake Dallas H.S.) hit an RBI-single
of her own to give TWU a 3-1 lead. Starting Pioneer pitcher Devin
Blew (Crowley, TX/Crowley H.S.) only allowed one run
during her three innings of work, but was pulled in the fourth
after she let two Cal State-Bakersfield batters get on base. Dawn
England (Graham, TX/Graham H.S.) (2-1) allowed the two
winning runs score in the fifth and recorded the loss. Aaron
Kelly was the winning pitcher for Cal State-Bakersfield.
Next up, the Pioneers travel to Irving, Texas, to face four
teams from the North Division in the Lone Star Conference First
Pitch Softball Jamboree. TWU will play Cameron at 2:00 p.m.
and Central Oklahoma at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14. Then
on Saturday, they will play East Central at 10:00 a.m. and
Southeastern Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m. All games will be played
at Southwest Park.
