NO. 25 CAL STATE-BAKERSFIELD ENDS PIONEERS' TOURNAMENT RUN

LAS VEGAS, NV—No. 25 California State-Bakersfield scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to come from behind and beat Texas Woman's University (2-3) 4-3 in the Las Vegas Classic. The loss ended the Pioneers three-day run at the tournament.

TWU and Cal State-Bakersfield were tied at one apiece after three innings of play. The Pioneers' Jennifer Collins (Euless, TX/Grayson C.C.) led off the fourth inning with a double and was moved over to third base while Megan Helms (Krum, TX/ Krum H.S.) moved to second after Amanda Arnold (Lewisville, TX/Lewisville H.S.) sacrificed a bunt. Stefani Easter (Troy, TX/Sam Houston St.) broke the tie when she hit an RBI-single, scoring Collins. One batter later, Courtney Martin (Lake Dallas, TX/Lake Dallas H.S.) hit an RBI-single of her own to give TWU a 3-1 lead. Starting Pioneer pitcher Devin Blew (Crowley, TX/Crowley H.S.) only allowed one run during her three innings of work, but was pulled in the fourth after she let two Cal State-Bakersfield batters get on base. Dawn England (Graham, TX/Graham H.S.) (2-1) allowed the two winning runs score in the fifth and recorded the loss. Aaron Kelly was the winning pitcher for Cal State-Bakersfield.

Next up, the Pioneers travel to Irving, Texas, to face four teams from the North Division in the Lone Star Conference First Pitch Softball Jamboree. TWU will play Cameron at 2:00 p.m. and Central Oklahoma at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14. Then on Saturday, they will play East Central at 10:00 a.m. and Southeastern Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m. All games will be played at Southwest Park.
