TWU SOFTBALL SIGNS HOUSTON PRODUCT

DENTON, TX—Head softball coach Dianne Baker announced the signing of Lauren Gustartis (Bellaire, TX/Bellaire H.S./San Jacinto College) to a National Letter of Intent at Texas Woman's University for the 2003-2004 academic school year. Early signing period runs from November 13 through November 20, 2002.

“Lauren Gustartis has wanted to play for Texas Woman's University since she was a junior in high school. We are very excited to have her become a part of the program because of the hitting power she brings to the plate,” Baker said. “Lauren is a physical player who can play either first or third base.”

Gustartis is a 5-4 infielder who will transfer to TWU after playing two seasons at San Jacinto College. She earned Region XIV Conference Honorable Mention honors at first base in 2002 and played on the Region XIV All-Star Team. Gustartis is a co-captain for the Lady Gators this season. She was a three-year letterwinner in softball at Bellaire High School and was tabbed First Team All-District 17-5A every season. In 1999 and 2001, Gustartis was named the District's Most Valuable Player.

Gustartis was a Texas Scholar award winner and graduated Bellaire H.S. with a 3.26 GPA. She played club softball for the Southwest Heat (1997-98), Cardinals (1999) and Texas Thunderbolts (2000-01) in Houston, Texas. Lauren is the daughter of Keith and Christina Gustartis and she plans on studying Kinesiology at TWU. She enjoys writing short stories and poetry and biking in her spare time.
