UCCS ELIMINATES PIONEERS
AT NCAA SOFTBALL REGIONALS
Collins Drills Second Home Run of Tournament
SAN ANTONIO, Tex. – After nearly a six and
a half hour delay, NCAA Softball Regional Tournament play resumed
between Texas Woman's
University and Colorado-Colorado Springs. UCCS earned a 2-1 victory
and eliminated the Pioneers from the tournament.
UCCS jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, and held that
edge as the rains began at approximately 2:30 p.m. CST. Played
picked up at 8:50 p.m. in the bottom of the second inning.
TWU senior Jennifer Collins (Forney, TX) hit her
second home run in as many days – a solo shot way over the left field fence – in
the top of the fourth inning to tie the score at 1-all. The Mountain
Lions scored the eventual winning run in the fifth inning on a
single from Lindsay Shandera to score Sonia Reyes.
Despite a pair of Pioneer hits in the seventh inning from junior
Rachel Townsend (Jacksonville, AR) and sophomore Sarah
White (Lewisville, TX), TWU could not get on the board again and UCCS advanced to
the third day of tournament play.
The Pioneers conclude their season with a 40-15 record.
