A Message from the
Director of Athletics
Thank you for visiting the web site of
the TWU Pioneers. I hope you find the information useful and
current.
I am very proud to serve as TWU's
director of athletics. We have a professional staff of coaches
and trainers who share my passion for women's sports. Our
student-athletes are the most dedicated, hard-working young women
I have ever met as evidenced by their success in the classroom
and in competition.
The Pioneers compete in NCAA Division II
in five sports. We are members of the Lone Star Conference (LSC)
in basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball. We also compete in
gymnastics as an independent.
All of our programs have enjoyed local,
regional and national recognition through the years. Our softball
team won the 1979 Women's College World Series and today's teams
have been nationally ranked. In gymnastics, we have won the USA
Gymnastics Collegiate National Championship seven of the last 11
years. Our home schedule features top Division II teams as well
as a number of Division I opponents. TWU has the only varsity
intercollegiate gymnastics program in the state of Texas!
Basketball is one of the most exciting women's sports around and
our talented team provides non-stop action and entertainment. Our volleyball
team is the current LSC North Division Champions with six All-Conference
players and Coach of the Year Shelly Barberee.
The facilities on our home campus in
Denton are first-rate. You can read all about them by clicking on
the Facilities link in the left menu bar.
Most importantly, we emphasize the
student in student-athlete at TWU. For the past 21 and a half years, the
overall cumulative grade point average for all of our
student-athletes has never dropped below a 3.0. That's 43 consecutive semesters!
We strive to
provide each student-athlete with all the resources they need to
become well-rounded, educated young women who graduate with a
baccalaureate degree from Texas Woman's. Since 1993, six
Pioneers have earned the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate
Scholarship, a $7,000 award for graduate school.
Please browse through our web site and
if you have any questions, please contact us at athletics@twu.edu.
Go Pioneers!
