USA Gymnastics Championship Edition

Countdown
Begins…Two Weeks: The 2004 USA Gymnastics
Collegiate National Championships will kickoff two weeks
from today on Thursday, April 8. Eight women’s teams
will compete in the semifinals at 4 p.m. On Friday, April
9, the men’s finals begin at 1 p.m. and the women’s
finals will start at 7 p.m. The individual event finals
will be held for both men and women at 5 p.m. on Saturday,
April 10. Single session tickets are available for $10
for adults and $8 for students 17 and under. An all-session
pass is also available for $28 for adults and $20 for students.

Women’s
Teams Finalized: The Pioneer gymnastics team,
defending USAG Collegiate National Champions, is one of
eight women’s teams who will vie for the 2004 crown.
Also qualifying are the Air Force Academy, headed by former
TWU assistant Lisa Woody, California-Davis, Centenary,
Cornell, Seattle Pacific, Southern Connecticut and Temple.
Individual qualifiers from Alaska, Bridgeport and West
Chester will also compete during Saturday’s session.
Men’s
Participants Confirmed: Gymnasts
from the College of William & Mary will defend the
men’s team title, along with varsity teams from Southern
Connecticut, Springfield, the U.S. Air Force Academy and
the U.S. Naval Academy. The field of eight will be rounded
out with club teams from Arizona State, Vermont and Washington.
Eight more gymnasts were also approved by the committee
to compete in individual events.
MacNabb
and Rehm Qualify for NCAA Regionals: Junior Erin
MacNabb (Glenwood, MD) qualified for the NCAA
South Central Regional Championships on the uneven bars.
MacNabb, who holds the TWU school record with a 9.925,
has a 9.84 Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) and is tied
for 114th nationally out of more than 500 gymnasts. The
first alternate was sophomore teammate Bethany
Rehm (St. Charles, MO). Both invitations were
declined in order to prepare for the USAG Championships.
Kim
Zmeskal Featured Speaker at Banquet: Gold
medalist Kim Zmeskal, a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic
Team and the first American All-Around World Champion,
will be the keynote speaker for the Athlete Banquet on
Wednesday, April 7. The banquet will be hosted by Canyon
Lake Ranch and will give visiting gymnasts a taste of Texas.
A limited number of tickets are available to the general

Academic
All-Conference: Thirteen
TWU gymnasts earned Scholastic All-Conference honors at
last weekend’s Midwest Independent Conference Championships.
The Pioneers had the most recipients of the five conference
teams. Honorees include: Jennifer Bolli, Jessica Brozovich,
Brenda Campbell, Thecla Gavin, Dana Giametta, Addi Hundley,
Lauren Kondikoff, Erin MacNabb, Amber McMeans, Brianne
Phillips, Bethany Rehm, Catherine Rodriguez and Courtney
Travis.
