BROZOVICH
AND GIAMETTA EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Pioneers Place Fifth at Midwest Independent Championships
NORMAL,
Ill. – Texas Woman’s University junior Jessica
Brozovich (Broomfield, CO) and senior Dana
Giametta (Brookshire, TX) both earned All-Conference
honors on vault at Saturday’s Midwest Independent Conference
Championships.
Brozovich
placed second overall on the event with a score of 7.775
and Giametta tied for third with season-best score of 9.75.
The
Pioneers finished fifth overall with a score of 190.125.
Illinois-Chicago won the meet with a 194.200. Southeast Missouri
State placed second with a 193.750, followed by Centenary
with a 193.600. Host Illinois State finished fourth with
a 192.825.
“We
started on beam today and only hit one routine,” said
TWU head coach Frank Kudlac. “Then
we had some problems on floor. You can’t start that
deep and expect to win and that’s exactly what we did.
Luckily we have at least one more opportunity.”
Freshman Thecla
Gavin (Peoria, IL) came in at the last minute
on floor exercise for an injured senior Kristin
Frogge (Cypress, TX) and scored a team-best 9.7.
The
Pioneers will return to Kitty Magee Arena April 8-10 as co-host
of the 2004 USA Gymnastics Men’s and Women’s
Collegiate National Championships. The women’s preliminaries
will be held Thursday, April 8 at 4 p.m.
