TWU
GYMNASTS KEEP IMPROVING; PLACE SECOND AGAINST NO. 24
BYU & AIR FORCE
Goddard Ties School Record on Floor Exercise
DENTON,
Texas – The Texas Woman’s University
gymnastics team scored a season-high 194.600 to place second
ahead of the U.S. Air Force Academy, 193.675, and behind
No. 24 BYU at 197.550.
Junior Rachel
Goddard (Scarborough, ONT) tied a TWU school
record with a 9.95 on the floor. Junior Lauren
Kondikoff (Mesquite, TX) tied
her personal best on floor with a 9.825.
The
Pioneers had more success on the other three events. They
scored season-highs on both bars and beam. Junior Erin
MacNabb (Glenwood, MD) scored a season-best 9.9
on the bars and was just shy of tying her own school record
of 9.925 on the apparatus. Freshman Brenda
Campbell (Ravenna, NE) earned her personal best on the balance
beam with a team-best 9.85, placing her third in the individual
standings.
Plus,
all five scoring TWU gymnasts hit their bests of the season
on vault, with juniors Jessica
Brozovich (Broomfield,
CO) and Kondikoff scoring career-highs with a 9.85
and 9.7, respectively.
BYU
did earn a perfect 10.0 on the vault from Carrollton native
Jaime Mabry.
“This
team is heading in the right direction,” said TWU head
coach Frank Kudlac. “I am very pleased
with Lauren Kondikoff’s solid performance and seeing
her confidence level rise. Rachel Goddard did an outstanding
job on the floor. There is still room for improvement and,
if we can get really hot, we can be a 196 team.”
The
Pioneers are on the road for their next two meets before
returning to Kitty Magee Arena on Friday, March 12 to host
Kentucky, Missouri and Pennsylvania to a 7 p.m. meet.
