EARNS SEASON-BEST AGAINST TOUGH COMPETITION
No. 10 LSU & No. 11 Arizona Set Magee Arena Record
DENTON,
Texas – The Texas Woman’s University
gymnastics team earned its highest score of the season,
193.475, but placed third behind visiting teams LSU and
Arizona.
No.
10 LSU and No. 11 Arizona set a Kitty Magee Arena record
with a combined five 10.0 performances. LSU scored three
10.0 and two Wildcats earned a perfect score. The two teams
were just as close in the final standings as in rank as the
Tigers scored 197.100 followed by Arizona’s 197.050.
Sophomore Nakia
Westbrook (Round Rock, TX) scored personal bests
on the vault and floor exercise. She debuted a new 10.0
vault called the Phelps and scored a career-high 9.875.
She also tied her career best on vault of 9.75 to help
the Pioneers to their best score on floor this season with
48.875.
Sophomore Amber
McMeans (Hurst, TX) is also making a strong comeback
from an ankle injury, scoring season-highs on all three
events in which she competed on the night. McMeans earned
a personal best 9.825 on the uneven bars and was the top
TWU beam performer with a 9.8. Her score of 9.675 on vault
was also a high this season.
“We
put up a good score, but it could have been a great score,” said
TWU head coach Frank Kudlac. “This
team can score a 194 or 195 when we hit. We have the opportunity
to train hard this week and prepare for another home meet
Saturday with our rival Air Force and BYU.”
The
Pioneers do host USAG rival Air Force and BYU at 7 p.m. this
Saturday, February 28 at Kitty Magee Arena.
