PIONEERS
EARN SEASON-HIGH ON UNEVEN BARS IN SAN JOSE
Lauren Kondikoff Has Big Meet for TWU
SAN
JOSE, Calif. – The Texas
Woman’s University gymnastics team earned its season-best
48.250 on the uneven bars, but the Pioneers’ overall
score of 191.025 placed third behind No. 24 New Hampshire
(194.975) and host San Jose State (193.925) in Friday night’s
meet.
Junior Erin
MacNabb (Glennwood, MD), who holds the TWU school
record on bars, and sophomore Bethany
Rehm (St.
Charles, MO) both scored a 9.75 on the apparatus.
Sophomore Addi Hundley (Dallas, TX) and
freshman Thecla Gavin (Peoria, IL) earned
season-best scores of 9.675 and 9.475, respectively. Senior Dana
Giametta (Brookshire, TX) contributed a 9.6 to
round out the Pioneers’ score.
Junior Lauren
Kondikoff (Mesquite, TX) also had a big meet for
TWU. She did not compete on the bars, but led her team
on the balance beam (9.825) and floor exercise (9.700).
She also made a respectable showing on vault, scoring a
9.575 in her collegiate debut on that apparatus. Junior Rachel
Goddard (Scarborough, ONT), who missed the last
two meets due to injury, made a triumphant return with
a personal best 9.8 on the beam.
“We
had a much better showing this week,” said TWU head
coach Frank Kudlac. “We are still
having some difficulties and the event seems to circulate.
This week we had trouble on floor and, very uncharacteristically,
I counted at least two falls. We still had some outstanding
individual performances for the entire meet.”
TWU,
a seven-time USAG Champion, will host the 2004 USAG Collegiate
National Championships April 8-10 at Kitty Magee Arena.
The
Pioneers will take a two-week break before traveling to their
next meet at Centenary on February 20. TWU returns home to
Kitty Magee Arena on Monday, February 23 and hopes to “Pack
the Gym” for the 7 p.m. meet with No. 14 LSU and 15th-ranked
Arizona.
