BOLLI
HAS CAREER NIGHT AT LSU
Pioneers Defeated by No. 14 LSU and Centenary
in Tri-Meet
BATON
ROUGE, La. – Junior Jennifer
Bolli (Rockwall, TX) scored personal bests on
the floor and vault but the Pioneers placed third at LSU
against the 14th-ranked Tigers and Centenary College.
Bolli
tied for sixth overall on the floor exercise with a career-best
9.825. She also scored an impressive 9.65 on vault in just
her second meet competing on that event, placing eighth.
TWU did well on the vault as a team, scoring a season-high
48.300. Junior Jessica
Brozovich (Broomfield, CO),
who placed sixth on vault with a 9.825, senior Kristin
Frogge (Cypress, TX), sophomore Amber
McMeans (Hurst, TX) and Catherine
Rodriguez (Coppell,
TX) all gave season-best performances on vault.
Despite
the strong showing on vault, as well as floor, the Pioneers
struggled on their first event – the balance beam.
TWU was down by more than three points after the first rotation,
but battled back to a final team score of 188.275. Host Louisiana
State won the meet with a 196.500 and Centenary placed second
with 190.100.
“You
can’t start in a hole that deep and expect to win,” said
TWU head coach Frank Kudlac. “I was proud that we fought
back in the other events. Gymnastics is made up of four events
and, unfortunately, we only competed in three tonight. I
do think we can learn a lot from this meet and be ready for
next week.”
TWU,
a seven-time USAG Champion, will host the 2004 USAG Collegiate
National Championships April 8-10 at Kitty Magee Arena.
The
Pioneers are on the road again next weekend to compete at
San Jose State in a tri-meet with New Hampshire on Friday,
February 6.
