GYMNASTS PLACE THIRD IN HOME QUAD MEET
Giametta and Kondikoff Record Personal Bests

Texas – TWU senior Dana
Giametta (Brookshire, TX) and junior Lauren
Kondikoff (Mesquite, TX) both recorded personal
bests in two events to lead the Pioneers to a third place
finish against some of their top competition of the season.
No.
21 Oklahoma placed first with a team score of 197.300. Southern
Utah finished second (193.025), followed closely by TWU with
a score of 192.200. The Air Force Academy rounded out the
standings with 187.275 in front of 553 fans.
The
Pioneers did place second on the uneven bars with a season-best
48.025. Giametta led TWU with a personal best 9.85 to tie
for fourth on the apparatus. Sophomore Erin
MacNabb (Glennwood, MD) added a season-best 9.825.
Giametta
also scored big on the floor with a personal best 9.7. Kondikoff
led the Pioneers on bar with a personal best herself of 9.825.
She was followed closely by freshman Thecla
Gavin (Peoria, IL), who made a spectacular collegiate
debut with a 9.8 on the floor.
Kondikoff
also recorded a career-best 9.85 on the beam to tie for fourth
in the individual standings.
“This
was a fantastic event and we saw some of the best gymnastics
in the country from Oklahoma,” said TWU head coach
Frank Kudlac. “This was our best score of the season,
but we still have room for improvement. I was especially
pleased with the support we had tonight from our community
and the gymnastics community.”
TWU,
a seven-time USAG Champion, will host the 2004 USAG Collegiate
National Championships April 8-10 at Kitty Magee Arena.
The
Pioneers are on the road Friday, January 30 to face No. 20
LSU.
