GYMNASTS OPEN SEASON AT CANCUN INVITATIONAL
Sophomore Amber McMeans Shines in Mexico
CANCUN, Mexico – Defending USA Gymnastics
Collegiate National Champions Texas Women’s University
placed fourth (189.175) in its season opener at the Cancun
Invitational.
The
Pioneers faced three nationally ranked Division I programs
as No. 15 Washington won the title in the first annual event
with a score of 196.450. No. 12
Iowa placed second (195.350) and 13th-ranked Oklahoma finished third (195.150).
TWU
sophomore Amber McMeans (Hurst, Texas/L.D. Bell) finished
seventh in the all-around championship with a comprehensive score of 37.825.
McMeans posted a strong performance in the floor exercise with a score of 9.85
to tie for eighth overall.
TWU,
a seven-time USAG Champion, will host the 2004 USAG Collegiate
National Championships April 8-10 at Kitty Magee Arena.
The
Pioneers will return home Saturday, January 10 to host Centenary
College for a 7 p.m. meet at Kitty Magee Arena. TWU Gymnastics
will be holding
Police & Fire Appreciation Night in conjunction with the meet. All
police officers and firemen will be admitted free and their family members
will be charged a "perfect 10" cents each.
