INTRASQUAD MEET SHOWCASES GYMNASTS’ TALENTS
Defending USAG Champions Ready to Begin
Competition
DENTON, Texas – Defending USA Gymnastics
Collegiate National Champions Texas Women’s University
held their annual Maroon & White Intrasquad meet Friday
showcasing impressive performances by both units.
The
White squad took the edge over the Maroon team, 113.325-111.975,
following a strong performance on the uneven bars in the
final rotation. Sophomore Chelsie
Leggett (Centerville, OH/Centerville), a USAG All-American on
bars, scored a team-high 9.700 on that apparatus to finish third in the
all-around standings. Sophomore Amber
McMeans (Hurst, TX/L.D.
Bell) and freshman Catherine
Rodriguez (Coppell, TX/Coppell) tied
for the all-around championship with a comprehensive score of 37.000.
Head
Coach Frank Kudlac said, "Tonight was
definitely a good start to our season. We have some work
to do this month, but I was encouraged
by the potential I saw in our student-athletes ."
TWU,
a seven-time USAG Champion, will host the 2004 USAG Collegiate
National Championships April 8-10 at Kitty Magee Arena.
The
Pioneers will officially kick off their season on January
2 in Cancun, Mexico. The inaugural Cancun Invitational will
feature TWU, Oklahoma, Iowa
and Washington. The next home meet will be Friday, January 10 at 7 p.m.
when the Pioneers host Centenary.
