KUDLAC SIGNS LOCAL GYMNAST TO 2005 SQUAD

DENTON, TX—Texas Woman’s University head gymnastics coach Frank Kudlac announced the signing of Brisa Fuentes to a national letter of intent for the 2004-05 academic school year. Fuentes is a 5-4 all-arounder who will graduate from Billy Ryan High School in Denton, Tex. in May of 2004.

"I am very excited that Brisa has signed with our gymnastics program. She is the first Denton gymnast that I have ever had on the team and the first gymnast from my club, Achiever’s," Kudlac said. "Brisa was coached by one of my former athletes, J.J. Shanks, and has worked her way up to Level 10 status. It is exciting to see one my club gymnast, who I have never coached, become a member of the Pioneers. I guess you can say that Brisa has come full circle in her gymnastics development in my program. She will add a lot of depth and skill to our team in the future."

Fuentes has competed at the club level for Achiever’s Gymnastics in Denton, Tex. throughout high school. She qualified for the Junior Olympic Nationals in 2001 and 2002 at Level 10. Fuentes placed seventh in the all-around at regionals and 25th at nationals in 2002. She was named Denton Record-Chronicle Athlete-of-the-Month in 2002 and has earned TAAS Reading Recognition honors.

Fuentes is the daughter of Valerie Fuentes of Denton, a 1999 graduate of Texas Woman’s University. Fuentes is going to study Pre-Med and Dentistry at TWU. She is a member of the Denton Bible Church and enjoys working at church functions in her spare time.

"I am very excited about becoming a member of the Texas Woman’s University gymnastics team. This not only a great program, but very close to home so all of my friends and family can come watch me compete," Fuentes said. "I chose TWU over a lot of other schools because of the relationship I have been able to build with Coach Kudlac after being a member of the Achiever’s Gymnastics Club for seven years."
