FAIN
NAMED ASSISTANT GYMNASTICS COACH
DENTON, TX—Head
Gymnastics Coach Frank Kudlac announced the hiring of Jackie
Fain as the
first full-time assistant coach for the Pioneer Gymnastics
program. Fain spent the 2002-03 season as a part-time assistant
with TWU, helping lead the team to their seventh USA Gymnastics
Collegiate National Championship and earning the 2003 USA
Gymnastics Assistant Coach of the Year award for her efforts.
"I am thrilled and excited about becoming a permanent fixture with the Pioneer
Gymnastics team. Coach Kudlac is a great head coach and I will enjoy working
side-by-side with him in the every day operations," Fain said. "This program has enjoyed a lot of winning over the past
decade and I want to help keep TWU on the winning track."
Fain
has been a club gymnastics coach since 1984. She began coaching
at Bluegrass Gymnastics in Lexington, Kentucky from 1984-86,
sending two gymnasts to
the University of Kentucky on full scholarships. Fain then moved on to
the Dubuque Gymnastics Club from 1986-93 where she had three gymnasts compete
for TWU, Kelly Carr, Amy McFadden and Michelle Horsfall. Carr and McFadden
became USAG All-Americans for the Pioneers. Fain also coached at Quincy
Gymnastics Center in Quincy, Illinois (1993-95), Westside Gymnastics in
Dubuque, Iowa (1995-98), and Spectrum Gymnastics in Londonderry, New Hampshire
(1998-2000). She has been a coach at Achievers Gymnastics in Denton, Texas
since moving here in 2000.
Fain
is also a Level 10 judge, working at the collegiate level
in the SEC and Big 12 conferences. She was meet referee for
the Big Ten championships
in 1998 and judged the Big 12 conference championships in 2001.
"I am extremely pleased with the direction Texas Woman’s University
took in getting the gymnastics program a full-time assistant coach," head
coach Frank Kudlac said. "Jackie
is a great addition to our program. She brings a lot of technical knowledge of
gymnastics with her and I expect a
lot of areas in our program will improve because Jackie will be with us full-time."
Fain
attended the University of Kentucky from 1979-83 and was
a double major in Physical Education and Interior Design.
She was a four-year letterwinner
in gymnastics and was named team MVP for both the 1982 and 1983 seasons.
Fain was the Wildcat’s first-ever nationally ranked gymnast in 1983,
finishing 16th in the all-around. Kentucky qualified for the NCAA Regional
championships in three of her four seasons, while she qualified as an individual
in the all-around her senior year. She graduated from Hempstead H.S. in
1979 and competed for Dubuque Gymnastics Club while in high school.
Originally
from Dubuque, Iowa, Fain and her husband Dan have three children,
Kinny, Aaron and Tedi. The couple currently resides in Denton.
The
seven-time USAG National Champion Pioneer Gymnastics team
will host their annual Intra Squad Meet on Friday, December
5, starting at 7:00 p.m. in
Kitty Magee Arena.
