PIONEER
GYMNASTS PERFORM WELL AT
NCAA SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONALS
COLUMBIA,
MO--Luci
Romberg (Foxfield, CO/Cherry Creek H.S.), Stephanie Loudat
(Houston, TX/Cy-Falls HS) and Amber
McMeans (Hurst, TX/L.D. Bell HS) represented Texas
Woman's University as individuals in the South Central Regional
Championships Saturday night and walked away with some good
experience. The six teams that competed in the Regionals
were UCLA, championship host Missouri, Iowa, Oregon State,
Arizona and Illinois-Chicago.
The
No. 1 ranked UCLA Bruins won the meet with a team score of
197.700, followed by the Iowa Hawkeyes in second with a
195.875. Both of those teams will move onto the NCAA National
Championships in Lincoln, Neb. on April 24-26.
Romberg
competed on vault and recorded a 9.500, which placed her
in a tie for 31st place with Denise Houda of
Illinois State. Alisha Robinson of Missouri won the event with
a 9.900. Loudat was next up on the uneven bars. She scored
a 9.750, placing her in a tie for 27th with Ashley
Godwin of Southeast Missouri and Chrissy Lamun of Oregon State.
Jamie Dantzscher of UCLA won the bars with a near-perfect 9.950.
TWU freshman Amber McMeans fell out of bounds in her first
pass on floor and recorded a score of 9.325, which put her
in 41st
place. Dantzscher of UCLA took home her third title of the
night when
she won the floor exercise with a 10.000.
Up next, the Pioneers will co-host the 2003 USA Gymnastics
Collegiate National Championships from Thursday, April 17 through
Saturday, April 19 in Kitty Magee Arena. TWU comes into the
meet ranked No. 1 in the USAG with hopes of winning their seventh
national title.
