RECORDS NEW SEASON-HIGH TEAM SCORE IN DUAL MEET WIN
DENTON,
TXThe Texas Woman's University gymnastics
team (3-8) turned in a season-high team score of 193.375 in
their dual meet victory over Bridgeport Saturday
night. The Purple Knights finished second with a season-best
188.100. The Pioneers also scored new season-highs on beam
(48.475) and floor exercise (49.200). Luci Romberg (Foxfield,
CO/Cherry Creek H.S.) won the all-around competition
with a 38.325.
The
Pioneers won all four events on the night by a considerable
margin and took the top three individual spots on each apparatus
as well. Luci Romberg won the vault with a 9.750 and was followed
by her teammates Jessica Brozovich (Broomfield, CO/ Erie
H.S.) and Kim Holland (McKinney, TX/Allen H.S.) in
second and third. TWU scored a 48.425 while Bridgeport recorded
a 46.775 on vault. The Pioneers had to count two falls on bars,
but still won by the score of 47.725 to 46.400. Stephanie
Loudat (Houston, TX/Cy-Falls H.S.) won the event with
a new career-high of 9.875 while Jennifer Bolli (Rockwall,
TX/Rockwall H.S.) came in second, also with a new career
mark of 9.825.
The
Pioneers really jumped out in front after the third and fourth
rotations. Loudat and Romberg paced TWU's new season-mark
of 48.475 on beam, with both gymnasts scoring a 9.725 to tie
for first place on the event. Lindsey Clowers (Garland,
TX/ South Garland H.S.) and Kristin Frogge (Houston,
TX/Cy-Fair H.S.) tied for second on beam with a 9.675.
Both schools turned in nice performances on floor, with TWU
taking the fourth and final event 49.200 to 48.250. The Pioneers
were .075 of a point away from tying the school record of 49.275,
set back on March 20, 1999 vs. Centenary. Amber McMeans
(Hurst, TX/L.D. Bell H.S.) and Kristin Frogge turned
in new season-highs of 9.875 to win the floor while Jonica
Scott (Grand Prairie, TX/ Bowie H.S.) came in third by
tying her career best of 9.850.
Up
next, the Pioneers hit the road for three straight away meets.
Their first stop is in College Park, Maryland as TWU
faces Division I talent in the University of Maryland, James
Madison and Towson University. The meet is scheduled
for Saturday, Feb. 22 with a new start time of 8 p.m. EST.
