#1 PIONEER GYMNASTICS RECORDS NEW SEASON-HIGH TEAM SCORE IN DUAL MEET WIN

DENTON, TX—The Texas Woman's University gymnastics team (3-8) turned in a season-high team score of 193.375 in their dual meet victory over Bridgeport Saturday night. The Purple Knights finished second with a season-best 188.100. The Pioneers also scored new season-highs on beam (48.475) and floor exercise (49.200). Luci Romberg (Foxfield, CO/Cherry Creek H.S.) won the all-around competition with a 38.325.

The Pioneers won all four events on the night by a considerable margin and took the top three individual spots on each apparatus as well. Luci Romberg won the vault with a 9.750 and was followed by her teammates Jessica Brozovich (Broomfield, CO/ Erie H.S.) and Kim Holland (McKinney, TX/Allen H.S.) in second and third. TWU scored a 48.425 while Bridgeport recorded a 46.775 on vault. The Pioneers had to count two falls on bars, but still won by the score of 47.725 to 46.400. Stephanie Loudat (Houston, TX/Cy-Falls H.S.) won the event with a new career-high of 9.875 while Jennifer Bolli (Rockwall, TX/Rockwall H.S.) came in second, also with a new career mark of 9.825.

The Pioneers really jumped out in front after the third and fourth rotations. Loudat and Romberg paced TWU's new season-mark of 48.475 on beam, with both gymnasts scoring a 9.725 to tie for first place on the event. Lindsey Clowers (Garland, TX/ South Garland H.S.) and Kristin Frogge (Houston, TX/Cy-Fair H.S.) tied for second on beam with a 9.675. Both schools turned in nice performances on floor, with TWU taking the fourth and final event 49.200 to 48.250. The Pioneers were .075 of a point away from tying the school record of 49.275, set back on March 20, 1999 vs. Centenary. Amber McMeans (Hurst, TX/L.D. Bell H.S.) and Kristin Frogge turned in new season-highs of 9.875 to win the floor while Jonica Scott (Grand Prairie, TX/ Bowie H.S.) came in third by tying her career best of 9.850.

Up next, the Pioneers hit the road for three straight away meets. Their first stop is in College Park, Maryland as TWU faces Division I talent in the University of Maryland, James Madison and Towson University. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 22 with a new start time of 8 p.m. EST.
