TWU GYMNASTS PUT ON
GOOD PERFORMANCE AT INTRA SQUAD SHOWCASE
DENTON,
TXThe Texas Woman's University gymnastics
team ended their fall workouts with the annual Maroon/White
Intra Squad Showcase in front of 200 fans in Kitty Magee Arena
Saturday night. The Maroon team took the meet with a team score
of 113.400 while the White squad turned in a 112.300. Team
Maroon won every apparatus except for balance beam, with White
winning that event 27.750 to 27.200.
I am extremely pleased with how the intra squad meet
turned out. Two things surfaced for this team tonight with
one being that we have a lot more depth in the lineup and two,
we have a lot of gymnasts who can compete as all-arounders, head
coach Frank Kudlac said. Competitive spots on this year's
team will be very valuable because of the talent level of all
of our gymnasts. We are going to open a lot of eyes this season
because I think this is the most talented group of girls that
TWU has ever put on the floor. We got through the fall practice
without any injuries and I am looking forward to a great 2003
season.
The
Maroon squad consisted of sophomore Jennifer
Bolli (Rockwall, TX/Rockwall HS), senior Kristin
Frogge (Cypress, TX/Cy-Fair H.S.), senior Kim
Holland (McKinney, TX/Allen H.S.), senior Stephanie
Loudat (Houston, TX/Cy-Falls HS), freshman Amber
McMeans (Hurst, TX/L.D. Bell H.S.), freshman Bethany
Rehm (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell H.S.), senior Luci
Romberg (Foxfield, CO/ Cherry Creek H.S.), senior Jonica
Scott (Grand Prairie, TX/Bowie H.S.), and freshman Nakia
Westbrook (Round Rock, TX/Round Rock H.S.).
As many as nine competitors worked on one event, with the
top three individual scores counting towards the team total
on the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
Nakia Westbrook led the Maroon team to a first place finish
on the vault, 28.600 to 28.500, by winning that event with
a score of 9.575. She was followed by Jessica Brozovich, who
scored a 9.550, and Kim Holland with a 9.525. Stephanie Loudat
led a Maroon team sweep of the top three places on bars with
a 9.725 while Jennifer Bolli and Amber McMeans tied with a
9.300. Maroon won the bars with a score of 28.325 to the White's
27.300. There was a three-way tie for first place on beam as
Amber McMeans, Dana Giametta and Erin MacNabb each recorded
a 9.300. Team Maroon won the floor title 29.275 to 28.750 by
taking the top six spots on that event. Jonica Scott won the
floor with a 9.825 while Stephanie Loudat came in second with
a 9.750 and Jennifer Bolli finishing third with a 9.700. In
the all-around, freshman Amber McMeans won the title with a
37.650 while Jennifer Bolli and Erin MacNabb tied for second
with a 37.300.
