MIDWESTERN
STATE TAKES ANOTHER FROM PIONEERS
Four TWU Players Score in Double Figures
DENTON,
Texas – Despite
some strong individual performances, TWU dropped a 87-76
decision to conference foe Midwestern State on Tuesday
night.
The
Pioneers recorded their best shooting from the field all
season, hitting 50 percent (26-52) of their shots. Senior Julie
Prescher (Valley View, TX) went 3-of-4 from behind
the arc and scored a team-high 17 points. Junior Kenyada
Frazier (Denver, CO) added 13 points, missing just
one field goal. However, TWU lost the battle of the boards
as Midwestern State grabbed 46 to the Pioneers’ 28
rebounds.
“There
were a lot of good things that came out of tonight’s
game,” said TWU head coach Devin Gabbard. “We
challenged the kids to step up and they did a lot of great
things offensively. This was our second best offensive output
as a team (76 points) this season and we did it against a
tough defensive team. We just did not execute well on the
boards and we didn’t take care of the ball enough to
win the game.”
TWU
junior Lauri Engleman (Jewett, TX) and freshman Megan
McCrummen (Mesquite, TX) contributed 11 points in
the Pioneers’ effort. The 11 points was a career best
from McCrummen, who was just one assist away from a double-double
with nine on the evening. Newcomer Cassie Thornburg
(Mesquite, TX) also had a notable evening with a
career-high seven points, two rebounds and two assists.
“Cassie
has finally gotten comfortable and has started playing like
the player I thought she would be,” Gabbard said. “She
has come a long way in a short time.”
The
Pioneers (1-16, 0-4 LSC) continue on their five-game homestand,
welcoming Texas A&M-Kingsville to Kitty Magee Arena for
a 7 p.m. tip on Thursday, January 29.
