SOUTHWESTERN
OKLAHOMA DEFEATS TWU, 59-52
DENTON,
Texas – The
Pioneers made a 7-0 run to start the second half, but
their lead evaporated and the Lady Bulldogs of Southwestern
Oklahoma earned a 59-52 victory at Kitty Magee Arena.
TWU
held as much as a four-point lead until the 11:09 mark when
the Lady Bulldogs scored seven unanswered points and never
looked back. Juniors Emily Hartman (Mesquite, TX) and Kenyada
Frazier (Denver, CO) led the Pioneer offense with
12 and 11 points, respectively. Frazier also grabbed a game-high
nine boards as TWU outrebounded the Lady Buffalos, 46-42.
A
notable absence on the Pioneers bench was junior guard Lauri
Engleman (Jewett, TX) who had to sit out this game
for health reasons.
“Lauri
is a real motivating factor for our team,” TWU head
coach Devin Gabbard said. “We knew
we were going to be short-handed tonight and, before the
game, I challenged someone to pick up the slack. I can’t
complain because I think a lot of them did a good job. We
just lost our legs in the end and missed some easy baskets.”
The
Pioneers fall to 1-12 on the season. TWU returns home to
Kitty Magee Arena for a 3 p.m. tip on Saturday, January 17
against Cameron.
