CENTRAL HANDS TWU 62-52 LOSS ON THE ROAD
Three Pioneers Score in Double Digits
ADA,
Okla. – Despite
three TWU players tallying double-digit points, the Pioneers
could not stop a veteran East Central team and dropped
a 62-52 decision to the Tigers on the road.
Junior
guard Lauri Engleman (Jewett, TX) led the
Pioneer offense with 16 points. Seniors Julie Prescher
(Valley View, TX) and Daphne Lyons (Flower
Mound, TX) added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
With
10 lead changes in the game, the Pioneers held a five-point
lead (52-47) following a short jumper from freshman guard Megan
McCrummen (Mesquite, TX) with 4:40 in regulation.
East Central came back with 15 unanswered points, hitting
7-8 from the free-throw line.
East
Central senior forward Lesli Shores racked up 31 points and
the Tigers’ senior class combined for 51 points on
the night.
"Their
seniors have been in this system for four years and what
a difference it makes," TWU head coach Devin
Gabbard said. "They (ECU) played a great game and
we just didn’t execute in the stretch. I can’t
complain, though, because my team worked their tails off
and outrebounded (42-33) a strong team."
The
Pioneers fall to 1-10 on the season. TWU finishes its two-game
road swing this Saturday at Southeastern Oklahoma. Tip-off
is 7 p.m. The Pioneers return to Kitty Magee Arena for a
7 p.m. tip on Thursday, January 15 against Southwestern Oklahoma.
